Setting goals

Setting goals 800 400 Mark Crone

Since becoming a business owner I have attended many business networking groups and listened to a diverse range of presentations. At least one presentation per month generally focuses on the subject of setting goals, both from a business and a personal perspective.

Having finished my year-end accounts it has put me in a reflective mood and only recently have I realised that actually since leaving full time education I have continually set and then achieved specific goals.

My first goal was to travel across Europe and I was fortunate enough to achieve this thanks to one of my first job roles. Me second was to live and work in the US and thanks to the great people at Eriez Magnetics in Erie, Pennsylvania I achieved this in 2004.

Personal goals included finding a partner and having children and I am pleased to say that after 7 years of marriage my wife still seems happy and we have 2 amazing little boys.

One of my biggest goals was to become self-employed and this happened 2 ½ years ago and I am delighted to have experienced over a 70% growth in business for the last financial year.

The most recent goal is one that I have wanted to achieve for a very long time. It is a challenge that has meant for the last 3-months I have had to build my fitness to a high level and in just over 2 weeks time I will be running the London Marathon. Having suffered with Asthma all of my life it only seemed right to choose them as my charity. The charity does exceptional work and the fact that both my little boys also have Asthma is a further driver for me to raise as much money as possible.

I believe it is important to set both business and personal goals and look forward to writing another blog to describe my experiences of running the Marathon.
