Why sometimes the best move is to put your feet up

There are days when you wake up, cup of tea in hand and the world feels like a never‑ending to‑do list. Projects to finish, emails piling up, campaigns to plan, meetings scheduled. It all demands your energy, your headspace, your time. But what if the best thing you could do for your creativity, your focus, even your happiness, was to do nothing for a while?

Yes, literally put your feet up.

1. Small pause, big clarity

Just like a small design tweak can refresh a whole brand, a short break can reset your mental outlook. You don’t need a grand sabbatical. A good cuppa, a comfy chair, 15 minutes to yourself. Sometimes that’s enough to clear the fog.

When you step away from the “noise” (emails, notifications, deadlines), your brain gets a chance to wander. Out of that wandering often come ideas, connections, small moments of insight you’d never find under pressure.

2. Your body (and mind) will thank you

We are not built for continuous hustle. Stress builds up, fatigue sets in and even small tasks start to feel daunting. Rest properly, mindfully, consciously  gives both body and mind a chance to recharge.

Whether it’s stretching, a slow walk, a cosy moment with music, or staring out of the window doing nothing: you’re not wasting time, you’re renewing your energy. You’ll come back sharper, more balanced and ready to do better work.

3. It helps you avoid burnout

We live in a world that can glorify business and constant activity. But habitually going full throttle can lead to burnout, the moment when creativity dries up, motivation flatlines and every task feels heavy.

Taking intentional downtime whether daily, weekly or whenever you feel you need it, keeps burnout at bay. It’s not a luxury, it’s a necessity. Kind of like backing up your data – you hope you don’t need it, but when you do, you’re grateful it’s there.

4. Because sometimes nothing is something

There’s value in “doing nothing”. In stepping off the treadmill. In letting thoughts drift. In silence, rest in calm.

You might not produce a social post, draft an email, or tweak a colour palette. But often, after that rest, you’ll come back with better work than you could have forced out under fatigue. The fresh perspective you gain can make even familiar tasks feel new again.

5. A little note from us to you

As a side note and an encouragement to all our clients, friends and partners, clearwater will be taking our own advice. We’ll be closed from Monday 22nd December to Monday 5th January for a proper break, giving us a chance to unwind, recharge and come back fresh for 2026.

If you need anything before then, just drop us a line. Otherwise we’ll see you in the New Year, rested and probably with better ideas too.

Wishing everybody a very Merry Christmas.
